Who are we? A lector makes God present in the community by His Word and welcomes the congregation into God’s presence. They lead the community to pray and inform them about important information in the parish.
What we do The lector is well prepared and proclaims the two readings of the Liturgy of the Word and occasionally the responsorial psalm in the absence of a choir singing it. They also read the commentary, prayers of the faithful, and announcements for the parish. The lector is part of the entrance and recessional procession and will join the priest, altar servers, and other ministers at the start and end of Mass. The lector carries the Book of the Gospels in the absence of a deacon.
Membership Any confirmed Catholic adult of good moral standing (this includes a valid sacramental marriage in the Catholic Church) wishing to serve as a lector is welcome to sign up for this ministry. For any clarification, please speak with the pastor.
New members will receive training, be assigned Masses, and placed on rotation in the liturgy schedule.
